New! A review of our gig with Faustus @ The Slaughtered Lamb, London 13/05/08
Lewis Garland and the Kett Rebellion brought their fans with them and were a great introduction to the second night of the ‘Faustus’ album launch. Strolling around like a Tudor troubadour, Lewis and his band played the whole set acoustically, preferring not to use the small stage area. From congas, beat box, and bass, to the more traditional mandolin, the Kett Rebellion sound like medieval pop, with the added benefit of Morrissey-esque word play from Lewis. Songs like ‘Blackboards and Fingernails’, and ‘The War’; the shaky egg gaffer taped to the foot of the percussionist, and an average age of ‘very young’ , this band were worth turning up early for.
Other Quotes/Reviews:
"energetic folk-klezmer linked with clever wordplay " The Coventry Evening Telegraph, Oct 2007
"a great voice, a brilliant guitarist and interesting lyrics... Lewis Garland is a singer songwriter with a difference" BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire
"Really thoughtful lyrics" Karine Polwart (winner of 2005 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards best album, best emerging artist and best original song)
"These young chancers from Coventry bucked the trend, turned down the PA and the stage and set up right in the middle of the barn!!! The folly of youth I thought - but then they started to play, people hushed and were treated to what in my mind was the best performance the Barn has seen so far. These guys are ridiculously good and gave a flavour to folk that I will want to taste for years to come" Promoter (Henley-on-Thames)
